I invite you to scroll down the page and learn about what Grad Photography with Roses & Scars Photography is all about. But if you have something specific you want to see, click any of these links and it’ll jump you down to that section.

The big day is almost here—your teen is about to graduate! It’s a huge milestone for them and for you. You’ve raised a brave, independent, and smart young adult who’s ready to take on the world. Go ahead, give yourself a pat on the back, Mom and Dad!

With so much to plan—suits, dresses, hair, makeup, and more—I’d love for you to add one more thing to the list: photography. If you’re anything like me, you’ll want lasting memories of this moment. Sure, cell phone pics are great, but they can’t capture the magic of professional shots, and let’s be honest—you want to be in the photos too!

That’s where I come in. A graduation session with Roses & Scars Photography is fun, collaborative, and creative. Whether it’s formal, casual, or cap and gown, we’ll make sure the images are vibrant and full of personality.

Here’s how it works: First, we’ll meet for a quick consultation over coffee or video call. It’s best if your graduate joins so I can get to know them and tailor the session to their personality. *Though this meeting isn’t essential, it really is a preference for everyones comfort.* We will discuss the shoot options, locations, and options for what to do with your images after they’re ready.
Once you’re ready to book, we’ll lock in a date, time, and location, and keep things flexible leading up to the session.

*whisper* By the way, your session doesn’t have to happen on graduation day itself—there’s no need to add more to an already packed day!

Pick a time that works best for everyone, and when the big day comes, all you have to do is show up, have fun, and let me do the rest. If any creative ideas pop up, feel free to share them! I love making it a team effort.

After the shoot, you’ll receive images to view within a week. You’ll select your favorites from there, then I’ll get to work with fully editing your selected images and you’ll get those back in 2 – 3 weeks.

Formal Grad Shoot

Formal sessions are all about capturing the inner movie star in your teen—the way they look when dressed to impress for Prom, as if they’re ready to walk the red carpet! These sessions freeze that magical moment when they step into their gown or suit, transforming from high school student into pure elegance.

While you can schedule the session on Prom day, I actually recommend booking it for a different day—either before or after. Think about it: it gives them another reason to get all dressed up again! Prom night can be so busy and full of distractions; setting the session for another day ensures the spotlight is entirely on them. Plus, it’s a great excuse to reuse that gorgeous gown or sleek suit. After all, how many chances will they get in life to wear such an outfit again?

It’s not just about capturing how incredible they look, but also giving them one more chance to savor the excitement of Prom. A relaxed, fun session without the time constraints of Prom day lets them feel like a star—without the rush!

I also offer these shoots for 8th grade graduates. That’s a vital transition in life that deserves to be celebrated also.

Casual Seniors Shoot

Casual Seniors sessions are perfect for capturing your teen’s true personality, passions, and hobbies! These sessions go beyond the formalities, focusing on what makes your teen unique—whether that’s their love for sports, art, music, or any other interests they’ve pursued throughout high school.

They’re an ideal choice for grads who might not have a Prom (since some schools are phasing it out) or for those who simply don’t feel drawn to the traditional pomp and circumstance of Prom. If your teen prefers a more laid-back vibe that reflects who they are day-to-day, this session will allow them to express themselves in a way that’s fun, relaxed, and 100% authentic.

What’s great about Casual Seniors sessions is that they can be paired with a Cap and Gown session, giving you the best of both worlds. You’ll get formal shots that celebrate the achievement of graduation alongside casual, lifestyle portraits that highlight their individuality and the interests that define them. It’s the perfect way to tell the full story of their high school journey—from academic accomplishments to the passions that make them who they are.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a shoot cost?

Session fees start at $180. The fee includes the pre-shoot consultation with grad and parents, the on-location shoot, and the online viewing gallery.

You can find more information on pricing by scrolling up or by shooting me a message to inquire for full details.

The session fee does not include any products after the session.

Are there any prints included in the session fee?

Products and prints are not included in the session fee. We will discuss what your product options at your pre-shoot consultation.

What do you mean by a pre-shoot consultation?

The pre-shoot consultation is something I prefer as I find that meeting with grads and parents ahead of time helps set the goals and expectations and helps me know what to expect. It allows us to become comfortable with one another and give me the ability to really tailor the shoot so everyone is happy.  I want to get to know the grad – talents, quirks, hobbies, passions, and who you are as a person. We will plan the day, time, locations, and who will be involved for your shoot.

It’s preferable but not imperative.

Where will the shoot take place?

Your shoot can happen almost anywhere!

For casual and formal sessions that are 1 hour or longer that are not on Prom day, the location could be indoors or outdoors anywhere in or around Saskatoon.

Locations for Formal Sessions on Prom Day are limited by distance to the location and appointment times – yours (hair and makeup) and mine (other grads that day).

How long will the photoshoot last?

Shoots can last from 1 to 2 hours from start to finish. If you have chosen multiple locations or outfits, then the time spent traveling between locations or changing outfits must be within your allotted time.

Longer sessions allow for more variety and a more relaxed experience.

How will I decide what to wear for my casual shoot?

When choosing what to wear for your casual senior session, you should consider what will best show your current style and personality. If that’s a beautiful sundress or ripped knee jeans, then that’s perfect! Make sure you are comfortable in it.

What should I bring for my casual shoot?

You don’t need to bring anything other than your outfits and yourself!

But if you want to bring something that represents your passions and hobbies, then you are absolutely invited to do so!

If you love playing the guitar, bring your guitar.
If you have a passion for playing and watching basketball, then bring a basketball or your favorite team’s jersey.

I can also provide colored smoke bombs for your session at an extra cost of $16 each. They’re super fun and add some great color variety to your images!

Will you edit my images?

Yes. There will be some editing applied to your images. I will remove temporary blemishes and soften ladies’ skin for a beautiful glow. The image colors will also be boosted for increased vibrancy.

When will my images be ready after the shoot?

After your session, I’ll have a basic edited gallery (light, color, cropping) ready for you to view. From there you will select your favorite images and I’ll go in and further edit those to remove blemishes, brighten eyes, and add some other effects. After selecting your favorites, it can take 2 to 3 weeks for the final editing to be finished.

How do I see my images when they are finished?

When the images are ready for viewing, I’ll send a Google Drive link to the email provided. You’ll view the images there and select your favorites by sending me the file names.

When final images are edited, delivery of the final product will be discussed with the responsible party.

What do most people do with their images?

Recently the most popular choices have been the 8 x 8 album and digital images. Sometimes both.

Do I need to know what I want to do with my images right away?

Oh gosh no! We can and will review what your options are at your pre-consultation for your consideration.

You don’t even necessarily need to decide what to do with your images before you start your shoot or even after. But I do recommend considering this before your shoot.

Why?

I have pre-paid package options that will save you money if you pay in full prior to the shoot. This also helps ensure that time doesn’t slip away and the photos get forgotten.

I only want my digital images so I can print them myself. Do you do this?

I do offer the purchase of digital images at $20 each. But you can purchase them in bulk. Large orders of digital images can be delivered on a USB thumb drive at no additional charge.

But I do strongly recommend prints or albums products as they will end up being better value for your dollar and the risk of your images being misplaced or forgotten is lower.

How long will it take for my products and prints to be delivered?

It depends on what you’ve ordered.

If you’ve ordered digitals only, those would be available for download within a day. On a thumb drive would take a day or two.

If you’ve ordered prints, they can take up to 7 business days.

If you’ve ordered an album, it could take up to 2.5 weeks to arrive.

Will my images appear on your website or Facebook page?

They don’t have to! At your grad shoot I will ask if you’re alright with me sharing your images online, then again after you’ve seen them. If you’re not okay with it then I absolutely will not post or share your images.

How do I book?

In order to book, all you need to do is send me an email, message, or text to start the conversation.

Believe me, I’ve tried contact forms, booking platforms, etc. None of them seem to work very well or consistently so I very much prefer a direct message, call or email straight from you to me.

You can use the Contact Me page to get in touch!

How far in advance should I book?

If you want to do your formal photos on your Prom day, then I recommend booking early to ensure availability! I mean months ahead of time, even! Don’t be afraid to check if I’m available for a last-minute booking, though. You never know!

If you’re doing your Casual or Formal photos on any other day (not Prom day) then you could book anytime before your desired session. I still recommend booking early, though.

Do the smoke bombs have any risks?

Naturally, smoke bombs are considered explosives so, yes, there are risks. But when used properly the risks are minimal. Even so, I do ask whoever is handling the smoke bomb to sign a liability waiver.

The biggest risk I’ve had to date, though, is staining. Yes, the color can stain clothing and skin if held too closely to either. Staining hasn’t lasted on skin, but can be permanent on clothing. But it has to be held VERY close to clothing.

Testimonials

We had Zane’s graduation & family photos done in June. Pam did a great job at helping us figure out what we wanted. She gave us a great location to use and helped us with posing. She also took our ideas for photos and made them even better. We were all very comfortable for individual, couple and family photos. She has amazing deals and worked to fit our time and financial budgets. Thank- you so much!

Barb

Mother of Zane - 2020 Graduate

It was easy. Even the boys said that. They said ‘Well that was fun’. It was just easy. Like it didn’t feel like there was pressure. I always get really stressed about doing photos but it was just easy. The track stuff was easy. I trusted you so that’s part of it, too, I think. I completely trusted you. And you didn’t make Rachel feel uncomfortable. I told her ‘Her business name is Roses & Scars. She gets imperfection and it’s okay. It’s beautiful.’ And that’s what you do. You take imperfections and you make them beautiful.
The first session watching you try to figure it out with the wind was entertaining. *laughing* With the gale force winds. And then the second one, it was just the whole experience. You know, like, we were all dressed up and it was fun taking pictures of you taking pictures of Rachel. Just the whole of it. It was just a lovely evening and we all came home and said, ‘Woah, that was good.’

Mother of Rachel - Grad Class 2021

The casual portraits were fun to do outside. I kind of felt like a model although it was pretty hard to pose in front of a beaming hot sun all day. I have never really liked myself in photos before, but I was very impressed with how awesome they turned out.
Of course, the formal portraits were fun. I got to walk around all dressed up with my hair and makeup done and my grad dress on as people stared at me. I absolutely loved the formal pictures! They all made me look like Cinderella and I felt that way all day during the photos.

Graduate of the Grad Class 2021

Pam was so absolutely lovely to work with and the pictures came out amazingly! Covid really had different plans for my graduation, but with her help, we managed to absolutely transform that into something super cool . She had fun ideas for poses and was open to the ideas we had, and she was extremely friendly and had a playful sense of humor that made us very comfortable!

Aspen

Graduate of Class of 2020

The experience was very good. Tyson had a lot of fun – as much as an 18-year-old boy can have at a photo shoot. Pam was very generous. We were on a time limit with the announcements of grad in newspapers; she got those photos out to the Paper!
The photos were great and I was so ecstatic that I actually got Cap and Gown pics. I ordered photos for all the family and have them hanging on the wall.

Chrissy

Mother of Tyson - Grad Class 2021

The casual session was a lot of fun! If I had to sum it up in a sentence, it was like a field trip, but a good field trip! My favorite part was definitely making weird faces at my sister so she would smile. There were some poses I didn’t think felt as natural, but they definitely made sense by the time I saw the photos. The photos themselves were fantastic! They captured both the fun and serious sides of my sister and me very well.
The formal photos took much less time to do, but looked just as stunning! It was definitely more uncomfortable to take the photos, just because I normally don’t wear heels, dresses or anything remotely fancy. My favorite part was being able to stand confidently or playing around with the smoke bombs! The pictures were absolutely ravishing and made me look like I wear dresses and heels everyday! The images just radiate confidence and I couldn’t be happier with the photos!
